어두움, 안개, 배고픔! 고난과 역경을 통해 단단한 믿음을 빚어 가시는 하나님의 섭리를 신뢰하며, 어려움 가운데서도 희망과 용기를 잃지 않고, 주님을 바라보는 믿음으로 승리하시기를 바랍니다.

우리 모두에겐 “내일“이라는 꿈과 “어제“라는 후회 사이에, “오늘“이라는 기회가 늘 주어집니다. 환경과 상황을 넘어서, 주님의 은혜를 기대하는 성숙한 믿음으로 오늘도 주님을 섬기고 이웃을 사랑하며, 끝까지 승리하는 믿음되기를 소망합니다….^^

어떤 아버지와 아들의 대화 내용입니다. 하루는 아들이 들어오면서 말합니다. “아버지, 참 감사한 일이 생겼습니다.” “무슨 일 있었니?” 아버지가 되묻자 아들은, “교회에서 오는데 차가 일곱 바퀴나 굴렀지만 상처 하나 없어요.”라고 들려주었습니다. 그러자 아버지가 아들에게 “나는 너보다 더 감사하다”라고 말하는 것입니다. 그래서 아들이 “아버지는 여덟 바퀴 굴렀나요?”라고 물었습니다. 이 때 아버지가 하는 말, “아니다. 나는 한 바퀴도 안 굴러서 감사하다..!”

우리 성도들은 어려움을 만나도, 어려움을 당하지 않아도 감사하는 사람들입니다. 어떤 조건이 있어서가 아닌 그저 모든 일에 감사하는 것입니다. 모든 일에 감사하는 삶은 풍성한 삶의 비결이며, 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리를 향한 하나님의 뜻입니다…..^^

Dear my beautiful supporters, it’s finally here. It’s … July.  I have now less than one month before returning home..!!  I will really report my update to you guys in person soon! Our team has just returned from a debriefing trip where we reflected upon our year and shared how God has worked in and through us this year. We got to do many rounds of conflict resolutions as a team, as well as some re-entry preparation. Every day I think about how unbelievable it is that this year is quickly coming to a close. While I’m excited to return home, I also feel sad and anxious to enter into this crazy season of closure and re-entry.

Something I noted during the debrief trip was that I did LOTS of Conflict Resolutions this year. 

God has really challenged and grew me in this field, as I was used to piling things up and holding things back. 

CRs were incredibly difficult but so fruitful… I realized that each CR brought me and my teammates so much closer. 

We have been trying to enjoy Tokyo more with the time that we have left 🙂 Hence the girls took a spontaneous Disney trip one day.

Staff GoodBye Party

These are the 16 Stinters and the 6 ICS (long term internal staff)! This was the staff welcome party LAST SEPTEMBER.

This day we were able to share our memories and praise reports from the past year and give glory to God for all the things He has done.

I’m incredibly thankful that God has brought all these amazing people in my life through this community that has made this year so full and rich.

Obari Sensai’s Class!

We had another crazy round of Obari sensei’s class! 

This was our last time to go to his class to participate and share the good news.

The students presented on the purpose of their lives after watching a Ted talk by Rick Warren.

We were then able to ask them questions and further share our purpose in life (what an easy way to share the gospel!). 

Most of the students were completely clueless about their purpose, which was a reminder for me that so many people live without knowing who made them for what. 

During one dinner after the class, I was able to sit with the professor and hear his testimony on how he became a Christian and why he uses his profession to preach the gospel.  In high school, he once attempted to take his life then woke up from being unconscious for three days. After he did a study abroad in America where his Christian friends pursued him to come to know Christ. After many denials (“I can’t become a Christian because I’m a Japanese!”), he accepted Christ which then led to all of his family members converting after seeing how much God has changed his life.  For decades he has been preaching the Gospel in classes he teaches. He shared that this is the only reason he teaches. There would be no point in teaching anything if the students don’t know about Christ, he said.  I was reminded of how the salvation of one soul could lead to the salvation of SO many others.

On our Friends’ Night, we held a goodbye event for the Stinters.

It was overwhelming to see how powerfully God is working in Tokyo to bring the gospel to the students. 

I shared the testimony of how God has brought me to Japan and changed my life and perspective. The gospel was weaved into my testimony so that the students could hear one more time on who Jesus is.  Once again I reflected upon the year realizing how God has called and sent me here not just for the salvation of other students, but for me. This year has been a year of God redeeming so many aspects of my life and I’m just speechless at His great love and grace for me.

I’ve been having a lot of fun these days with the ministry as God has been SO good in allowing me to enjoy Tokyo while doing the ministry! 

Sakura-chan and I went to Disney Land where we had a lot of fun but also got to have a deep spiritual conversation.

Konatsu-chan and I went to an Art exhibition and then I got to share the testimony to her to follow up with the previous gospel share.

I also attended an orchestra concert where Sumire and Mariko chan performed in an attempt to show God’s love and support for them. 

In such ways, I’ve been having lots of non-traditional campus ministry time and it’s really awesome!

I’ve started to meet my friends one by one to say goodbye as well. 

Nao-chan from the picture above came to Christ at the beginning of our stint year, and she is now such an amazing woman of God. 

Goodbyes really suck but it’s been also a reminder of how faithful God has been in allowing my friendships to flourish here. 

The past weekend our team got debriefed, so the end is really drawing near! 

Now I have around three weeks left to wrap up my time here in search of the next step. 

The next few weeks will be filled with my last student appointments. Please pray that God will open doors for me to share the gospel one last time or show the love of God! 

AHHHHHHHHHHH what a crazy season. I’m NOT ready to say goodbyes, but I’m also looking forward to stepping into this time filled with uncertainty and confusion. 

And that’s it!  The next prayer letter might be written in America…!!  Please please continue to pray for protection in our team and ministry so that we may experience a good and complete closure.  Thank you so much for staying with me!!

선교 보고와 소식

주님의 이름으로 평안의 인사를 드립니다.

지난 6월 5일 우간다로 돌아온 후 이제야 아루아에 정착의 첫 단계인 거주할 집을 찾아 이사를 하였습니다. 여러 분들의 기도 덕분에 오래 걸리지 않고 집을 찾아 세를 얻을 수 있었습니다. 적절한 집을 찾기가 쉽지 않았는데 주님의 인도하심으로 중개업자가 더 이상은 보여줄 집이 없다고 하였는데 무작정 발 품으로 찾아 들어간 집에서 좋은 그리스도 인을 만나 집을 얻게 되었습니다. 집 주인도 주님이 보내셨다는 고백을 했었지요.

아루아는 회교가 왕성한 곳 입니다. 70년대 우간다를 유명하게 했던 악명 높은 이디 아민의 고향이 가까운 곳 입니다. 이른 아침부터 들리는 아잔 소리(회교 회당에서 확성기로 코란을 읽는 소리)에 더욱 영적전쟁터임을 실감 하는 곳입니다. 영적인 싸움이 치열한 이곳에서의 새로운 생활을 위해 여러 분들의 기도가 더욱 간절히 필요 합니다.

이곳은 우기에 접어들어 비가 오고 있습니다. 2년 이상 적은 비와 기후 변화로 인한 고르지 않은 비로 인해 농사에  어려움이 있었지요. 이번 해도 예상 하기는 40-60% 정도 식량 수급이 줄어들 것으로 예상 되고 있어 매우 걱정이 됩니다. 기후 변화로 인한 어려움을 가장 절실히 볼 수 있는 곳이 아프리카인 것 같습니다. 하늘의 비만 의지하는 농사 법이 대부분인 이곳에서 기후 변화는 가장 큰 재앙이 된 것 같습니다. 이번 우기에는 곡식이 잘 자라 수확의 기쁨을 가져오기를 간절히 기도 합니다.

목회자 훈련 소식

글루의 파보 지역에서 이루어진 지역 목회자 훈련이 마무리 단계에 있습니다. 다음 주 마지막 과목 강의를 하고 토요일에는 졸업식을 합니다. 비록 14명의 작은 수가 졸업을 하지만 1년 과정을 성실히 임해 나름 격려가 됩니다. 이번 졸업을 계기로 더 많은 목회자의 훈련 참여가 유도될 수 있기를 기대하고 있습니다.

비디비디 지역의 목회자 훈련이 구성 되어지고 있습니다. 앤드류 무디 선교사와 함께 진행할 이곳의 훈련은 지난 해 함께 방문하여 이루어지게 되었지요. 여러 곳에서 요청이 있습니다. 주님의 예비 하심을 보며 세밀한 인도하심을 구하며 나아갑니다.

성경 보급

오자 마자 기다리던 사람들이 성경을 구입했습니다. 이번에는 젊은 청년들이 기다리면서 돈을 준비해 영어 성경을 구입했습니다. 어려운 상황에서도 말씀을 향한 갈급함으로 성경을 구입하는 것을 보며 매우 감사했습니다.

필요한 부족어 성경은 구하기가 매우 어렵습니다. 우간다 성서 공회에는 저희가 필요로 하는 성경이 없지요. 이번에는 영어 성경만 구입할 수 있었습니다.

찬송가 인쇄는 시간이 걸리게 되었습니다. 남수단 성공회 교단에서 그동안 함께 붙어 있던 찬송가와 기도서를 분리 하기로 결정하였고 남수단 안에서 만든 주바 찬송가와 난민들이 남수단 밖에서 만든 찬송가를 함께 수록해 인쇄하기로 결정하였지요. 하지만 이 작업은 시간이 소요되는 일이라 바로 할 수 없어 교단의 결정과 작업 과정을 기다려야 합니다.

예배당 함석 지원

몇 교회의 요청이 있지만 함석을 올리기까지 준비가 되어야 하니 시간이 필요 합니다.

남수단 소식

5월에 구성하기한 연합 정부는 다시 11월로 연기가 되었습니다. 싸움은 그쳤고 비교적 안정이 되고 있지만 긴장된 정세로 아직은 사람들이 돌아가지 못하고 있습니다. 큰 도시는 그래도 평온을 유지 하고 있다는 소식을 듣습니다

난민촌에 밀집해 모여 있는 이 시간이 저희에게는 골든 타임 입니다. 최대한 이 시간을 교회 지도자들 훈련하는데 집중하려 합니다. 남수단으로 돌아가게 되면 훈련은 더욱 어려워 집니다. 넓은 지역으로 가니 접근이 어렵지요.

주님께서 주신 골든 타임에 부지런히 사명을 잘 감당할 수 있도록 기도해 주시 바랍니다.

주님의 은혜가 선교 동역자님들의 교회와 가정위에 충만하시기를 빕니다.
